Have you configured thunderbird as the default email client in tools->options->general? That should replace the systems mapi32.dll file with its own mapi32.dll file so that any applications making simple mapi api calls will call it. http://www.eudora.com/developers/mapi.html has some usefull background info, even though its for eudora. LookOut is a plugin which allows Thunderbird (and SeaMonkey) to interface with Microsoft's mail tools by decoding metadata and attachments encapsulated/embedded in a TNEF encoded attachment (aka winmail.dat). The TNEF decoding engine was inspired (with permission) by the TNEF project. LookOut has a full MAPI decoder and the ability to transcode some of those properties to iCalendar (ics) and vCard (vcf) formats. The most common causes of a MAPI type error with Thunderbird are that Thunderbird is not set as the default e-mail program in Windows, or your personal account is not set as the default account in Thunderbird, or some other email program in Windows is interfering with MAPI connections to Thunderbird.

Detta kan bero på att en registernyckel saknas. Gå in under Start - Kör. Ifall du använder ett mejlprogram som inte har stöd för MAPI kommer inte ett annat lokalt installerat e-postprogram, exempelvis Thunderbird. POP3 – Outlook, Thunderbird; MAPI (Microsoft Exchange Server) – Outlook; Webbaserad e-post – Alla webbaserade e-postkonton med IMAP/POP3-åtkomst.
